Description

To develop an active antenna combined software and hardware demonstrator representative of a LEO satellite payload by exploiting advanced strategies for real time dynamically managing radio resources.Description: On-board satellite resource allocationstrategiesare essential for managing the distribution of limited resources from the antennas to multiple user terminals. These strategies involve dynamic allocation techniques that can adjust in real-time based on traffic demand. However, in dense traffic scenarios like onboard LEO satellites, these strategies face significant challenges. The high volume of demand can lead to congestion, resulting in increased latency and reduced QoS. Additionally, the limited on-board processing capability challenges the satellite's ability to efficiently manage traffic which leads to degraded antenna performance. Considering these challenges, the objective of this activity isto develop an active antenna combined software and hardware demonstrator representative of a LEO satellite payload by exploiting advanced strategies for dynamically managing radio resources, i.e. beamforming for real time tracking and coverage change combined with power and bandwidth allocation. Resource allocation should be defined as an optimization problem, considering factors like channelconditions, user demands, interference levels, and power constraints. This activity encompasses the following tasks: - Derive real-time complex coefficients, using optimization strategies for the beamforming network. - Emulate users' movement and channel changes for proactive beam steering. - Develop models to detect and classify interference sources and use optimization techniquesfor mitigation. - Manufacture and test a proof-of-concept hardware demonstrator with a limited size active phased array and associated adaptivebeamforming, mounted on a mechanically movable platform with additional antennas located in fixed positions.
