Field Researchers / Enumerators – Uganda

Aninver Development Partners SL (www.aninver.com) is looking for a Field Researchers / Enumerators for a governance, private sector consultancy assignment financed by UNICEF in Uganda.

Aninver Development Partners SL is preparing a proposal for an upcoming independent assessment in the education sector in Uganda, supported by UNICEF. The assignment focuses on evaluating the implementation quality, emerging outcomes, and institutionalization-readiness of the national Life Skills Programme across diverse settings, including urban, rural, and refugee-hosting contexts.

To support comprehensive multi-site fieldwork, we are seeking qualified Field Researchers / Enumerators. The successful candidates will play a critical role in gathering robust empirical data directly from learners, teachers, and school administrators while adhering to the highest standards of research ethics and child safeguarding.

Aninver is preparing a proposal for this assignment. The selected expert will be part of the proposed team; the engagement is conditional on the contract being awarded to Aninver. The full Terms of Reference for the position are shared with shortlisted candidates.

Objectives of the assignment

• Execute ethical and rigorous field-based data collection across designated schools and learning environments in Uganda.
• Engage effectively with children, adolescents, teachers, and local education stakeholders during surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
• Ensure strict adherence to child safeguarding principles, ethical guidelines, and protocols for informed consent.
• Accurately record, manage, and deliver clean data to support mixed-methods analysis for the UNICEF-backed assessment.

Scope of work

• Conduct multi-site quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews involving schools, teachers, and learners.
• Administer questionnaires and support participatory inquiry across various implementation districts.
• Coordinate closely with the research team to ensure data collection tools are applied consistently.
• Ensure ethical data gathering practices tailored to vulnerable groups and children.
• Manage secure data handling, initial compilation, and timely handover of field records.

Your role as Field Researchers / Enumerators

• Participate in enumerator training sessions on data collection tools, methodologies, and ethical protocols.
• Deploy to selected urban, rural, and refugee-hosting implementation sites to conduct fieldwork.
• Administer quantitative surveys and assist with qualitative interactions under the guidance of research leads.
• Strictly apply safeguarding measures, confidentiality rules, and informed consent procedures with all participants.
• Identify and report any field-level challenges or anomalies to the research management team promptly.
• Review completed data forms and transcripts for completeness, accuracy, and consistency before submission.

Requirements

• Experience conducting ethical data collection with children, adolescents and education stakeholders, and training in safeguarding and consent
• Languages: Relevant local language competencies for the selected implementation sites

Desirable

• Previous experience working on UNICEF or other international donor-funded education assessments.
• Familiarity with life skills programmes, socio-emotional learning, or adolescent development initiatives.

A diligent field researcher with strong interpersonal skills, deep familiarity with local implementation contexts in Uganda, and an uncompromised commitment to child safeguarding and ethical research practices.
