Aninver Development Partners SL is currently preparing a competitive proposal for an upcoming technical assistance project in Guinea-Bissau. We are seeking a qualified Geotechnical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team of international and local experts for this assignment. The project focuses on critical infrastructure development, requiring specialized technical inputs to ensure the highest standards of engineering design and implementation.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in assessing ground conditions, designing stable foundations, and providing expert geotechnical guidance throughout the project lifecycle. This is a key expert position offering the opportunity to contribute significantly to sustainable infrastructure development in the region.

Aninver is preparing a proposal for this assignment. The selected expert will be part of the proposed team; the engagement is conditional on the contract being awarded to Aninver. The full Terms of Reference for the position are shared with shortlisted candidates.

Objectives of the assignment

• Conduct comprehensive geotechnical assessments and soil investigations for infrastructure development.
• Ensure all foundation designs comply with international engineering standards and local site conditions.
• Mitigate geological and geotechnical risks associated with marine and land-based construction.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including structural engineers and environmental specialists.
• Provide technical oversight and quality assurance during site execution phases.

Scope of work

• Reviewing existing geological and geotechnical data for the project locations.
• Planning and supervising site investigations, soil sampling, and laboratory testing programs.
• Analyzing soil mechanics parameters to support foundation and marine structure design.
• Preparing detailed geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and technical recommendations.
• Assisting with the preparation of technical specifications and tender documentation.
• Providing advisory support during construction supervision regarding ground engineering issues.

Your role as Geotechnical Engineer

• Lead all geotechnical engineering activities and deliverables for the assignment.
• Perform complex calculations related to soil mechanics, bearing capacity, and settlement analysis.
• Design marine foundations and pile structures suited to local geotechnical conditions.
• Coordinate closely with the project manager and other key experts to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Review contractor submittals, method statements, and design proposals pertaining to geotechnical works.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings and present technical findings to relevant authorities.
• Ensure timely delivery of high-quality technical reports and documentation.

Requirements

• Education: University degree and postgraduate training in soil mechanics. Registration with a professional institution
• At least 10 years of experience in maritime infrastructure
• Experience as a geotechnical engineer on at least 2 similar projects concerning marine foundations and/or piles
• Languages: Fluent in English

Desirable

• Knowledge of the region is an advantage
• Previous professional experience or regional knowledge in West Africa or similar developing contexts.
• Familiarity with multilateral donor-funded project procedures and requirements.

An experienced Geotechnical Engineer with a strong background in soil mechanics and marine foundations, eager to contribute technical expertise to infrastructure development in Guinea-Bissau.
