Job description

Aninver Development Partners SL (www.aninver.com) is looking for a Local Facilitator - South Africa for a private sector consultancy assignment financed by UNDP in South Africa.

Aninver Development Partners is seeking a Local Facilitator for a prospective consultancy assignment in South Africa supported by UNDP. The initiative focuses on unlocking cross-border trade linkages between Special Economic Zones and micro, small, and medium enterprises under the broader private-sector development framework in the country.

The expert will play a critical role on the ground by facilitating stakeholder engagement, coordinating site visits to selected industrial zones, and supporting primary data collection to strengthen the national supply-chain opportunity pipeline.

Aninver is preparing a proposal for this assignment. The selected expert will be part of the proposed team; the engagement is conditional on the contract being awarded to Aninver. The full Terms of Reference for the position are shared with shortlisted candidates.

Objectives of the assignment

  • Facilitate effective engagement with local stakeholders, Special Economic Zone operators, and tenant firms in South Africa.
  • Coordinate and support logistics for site visits and primary firm-level data collection activities.
  • Contribute to the identification of buyer and supplier interests and potential product-supplier matches within the private sector.

Scope of work

  • Design sampling approaches and select Special Economic Zone tenant firms and prospective suppliers in coordination with the wider team.
  • Collect firm-level data through structured engagements and interviews with local operators, tenants, and anchor buyers.
  • Analyse data to identify production gaps, certification constraints, and logistics bottlenecks at the enterprise level.
  • Map local firm constraints to the established barrier solution matrix.
  • Support the refinement of the product pipeline with robust, ground-level empirical evidence.

Your role as Local Facilitator - South Africa

  • Lead local stakeholder coordination and communication with Special Economic Zone management and tenants in South Africa.
  • Organize and execute field visits and interviews with key informants, enterprise owners, and supply-chain actors.
  • Assist in administering structured data-collection instruments capturing company profiles, inputs, outputs, and capacities.
  • Ensure the inclusion of relevant women- and youth-led suppliers during the fieldwork phase in alignment with project standards.
  • Support data-quality assurance, triangulation, and confidentiality safeguards during local data gathering.
  • Coordinate closely with the research partners, country offices, and the core consulting team to ensure seamless execution.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated professional experience in local stakeholder facilitation, field research, or project coordination in South Africa.
  • Strong familiarity with the private-sector landscape, industrial zones, or supply-chain operations in the country.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and interviewing skills for engaging with diverse business and government stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute field visits and data-collection activities independently.
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English.
  • National of, or based in, the project country

Desirable

  • Prior experience working with international organizations or United Nations agencies on private-sector development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Special Economic Zones and regional trade frameworks in Africa.

A dynamic local professional with extensive field-level experience in South Africa's private-sector or industrial ecosystems, equipped with strong stakeholder-engagement skills and a track record in supporting enterprise surveys or supply-chain studies.
