The concept for the final closure of the Gyöngyösoroszi Ore Mine involves sealing the opened drifts and excavation system of the Mátraszentimre mining area, with the aim of closing off the exposed ore surfaces to eliminate the possibility of sulfide mineral (primarily pyrite) oxidation. As the acidification resulting from the dissolution of oxidized pyrite decreases, the waters emerging in the Mátraszentimre area will be characterized by lower toxic metal content, thus improving water quality in the long term. Another goal of the sealing is to eliminate the uncontrolled pressures that arise from collapses due to the degradation processes of the drifts. The tasks for the closure of the Gyöngyösoroszi Ore Mine are defined from a mining perspective in the current Technical Operational Plan, and from an environmental perspective in the environmental operating permit and the technical intervention plans. During the sealing works, which began in 2012, 87,000 m3 of cavity volume has been sealed to date. These works must be continued in a phased manner by sealing the excavation cavities of level 6 from 1978-79, the West drift, the No. 3 bypass drift, the South exploratory drift, the North waste crosscut, and the East drainage drift of level 6. In the final phase, the beginning of the North crosscut, the inclined shaft, and the vertical shaft must be sealed. The vertical shaft will be sealed using mixed filling. All this amounts to approximately 10,000 tons of slurry filling. Two types of sealing technology will be used in the project: for inaccessible mine cavities, dense slurry will be delivered from above through vertical boreholes or breakthroughs created from level 6, or via chutes; for accessible and secured mine drifts, dense slurry will be delivered from the front through pipelines installed in the drifts. At the Mátraszentimre site, personnel, freight, and special freight transport for underground mining operations is carried out via the vertical shaft. The operational tasks of the vertical shaft must be carried out in accordance with the provisions of Decree 23/2022. (I. 31.) SZTFH on safety regulations for underground mining activities. Based on consultations with the authority during the execution of the framework agreement, the tenderer's tasks include mining design and design supervision. In carrying out these tasks, the tenderer must prepare the approval and/or construction design documentation according to the finalized technical content. The design task includes the necessary consultations and administrative procedures with the involved parties, as well as design supervision. Carrying out mine rescue tasks, performing underground work, or carrying out inspections and supervision as required by law during periods of suspension, performing operational tasks for the Mátraszentimre site, Altáró site, and the Száraz-völgy sludge pond, as well as operating the mine communication, ventilation, electrical network, medium-voltage network, and rail transport systems. The tenderer is responsible for carrying out mine rescue tasks in the mine operations located on the mining plots named "Gyöngyösoroszi I.-érc" and "Recsk I.-rézérc".
