Analysis of barriers to acceptance and development of recommendations for the appreciation of wilderness in Germany

The project supports the implementation of measures from the National Biodiversity Strategy (NBS 2030) and the Action Programme for Natural Climate Protection. It is directly related to other federal activities in terms of process protection and will support their implementation. Despite the implementation of wilderness goals at national and state levels, the establishment of funding instruments, and a strong coalition of various non-governmental organizations on the topic, the federal government's wilderness objectives have not yet been achieved. The results of the current nature awareness study generally show a positive view of the general population towards the topic of wilderness. However, practice shows that, among other things, conflicts of interest arise with surrounding land users and residents when establishing wilderness areas. The aim of the project is to remove barriers to achieving the federal government's wilderness goals. To this end, fears and reservations are to be analyzed, social acceptance promoted, and practice-oriented solutions developed for landowners (municipalities, churches, etc.).
