Description

Democratic Republic of the Congo Associate Engineer (Prefab / MSU Installation Technician) Organization CTG (Committed To Good) Posted 16 Jun 2026 Closing date 22 Jun 2026 Overview of position CTG is looking for a qualified Associate Engineer (Prefab / MSU Installation Technician) for our operations in DRC. The Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is being implemented in a complex operating environment marked by insecurity, limited infrastructure, constrained access, and urgent public health requirements. The operation is focused on Bunia and Beni, with support to other forward hubs as needed, to strengthen logistics capacity for our client and humanitarian partners. To support the scale-up of the response, our client requires temporary technical support to rapidly install prefabricated facilities and erect Mobile Storage Units (MSUs) for storage, operational staging, partner cargo handling, and field support services. The position will contribute directly to strengthening emergency logistics infrastructure by ensuring that prefabs, MSUs and related site works are installed safely, quickly and in line with operational requirements, occupational safety standards and UN procedures. Role objectives The Associate Engineer will act as the technical lead for prefab installation and MSU erection in Bunia, Beni and other Ebola response forward hubs as required. The role will provide hands-on engineering guidance on how prefabs are installed and MSUs are erected, including site assessment, installation methodology, layout preparation, supervision of erection works, quality control, safety compliance, basic civil works coordination, and handover of completed structures for operational use. Ensure timely and safe setup of temporary logistics infrastructure, including prefabs, MSUs, storage extensions, work areas and related support facilities. Serve as the main technical reference for installation teams, ensuring that prefab and MSU works are carried out using the correct sequence, tools, anchoring methods and safety controls. Expected outputs will be delivered throughout the three-month assignment and adjusted according to operational priorities, site readiness, security conditions and the evolving Ebola response footprint. Completed site assessments and installation plans for prefabs and MSUs, including site layout, ground conditions, access requirements, drainage considerations and material/labour needs. Clear technical guidance provided to installation teams on the correct installation process for prefabs and the proper erection sequence for MSUs. Prefabricated facilities and MSUs erected, anchored, checked and handed over for safe operational use in Bunia, Beni and other designated forward hubs. Daily supervision of installation teams, labourers and service providers, ensuring adherence to safety standards, quality requirements and agreed timelines. Installation progress reports, completion notes, snag lists, photos and handover records submitted to the Logistics team for tracking and audit purposes. Project reporting The Associate Engineer will report functionally to the Head of Logistics Bunia/Beni Field Office or designated Logistics Officer. Progress will be monitored through daily site updates, weekly installation trackers, completion certificates and direct coordination with Supply Chain, Engineering, Administration, Security and partner focal points where relevant. Provide concise daily progress updates covering completed works, pending activities, constraints, required materials, safety issues and support needed. Maintain installation records, basic measurement sheets, site photos and handover documentation for each completed structure. Key competencies Strong practical knowledge of prefab installation, MSU erection, light civil works, site preparation, basic structural safety and construction supervision in emergency or field environments. Demonstrated ability to lead technical decision-making on prefab installation and MSU erection, including sequencing, anchoring, alignment, structural checks, corrective actions and safe handover. Ability to work under pressure, solve practical site problems, coordinate labour and service providers, and deliver safe infrastructure within tight emergency timelines. Good understanding of occupational safety, use of PPE, safe lifting, working at height, site housekeeping, and infection prevention measures applicable in an Ebola response setting. Team management The position will not have formal line-management responsibilities. However, the Associate Engineer will serve as the technical lead for installation activities, providing day-to-day technical direction, supervision and tasking of installation labour, casual workers, contractors or service providers assigned to prefab and MSU works. The role will ensure that teams follow the correct installation methodology, apply safe work practices, maintain quality standards and complete agreed tasks on time. Coordinate closely with Logistics, Engineering, Administration and Security focal points to align installation activities with operational priorities, access conditions and site safety requirements.
