Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form IND Description:YKAN is inviting a qualified Individual Consultant to submit proposal for the following scope of work:Project BackgroundThe Bangka Belitung Islands Province is located on the southeastern coast of Sumatra. The province consists of two main islands, Bangka and Belitung, along with numerous smaller islands. Bangka Belitung is interconnected by seas and smaller islands, resulting in a long coastline that is largely covered by mangroves. The total mangrove area in Bangka Belitung is approximately 67,386.54 hectares, with 48,271.05 hectares on Bangka Island and 19,115.49 hectares on Belitung Island. The mangrove ecosystem in Bangka Belitung is mostly in good condition, and is categorized as ancient, oceanic, and the largest existing mangrove area within a single province. The Bangka Belitung Islands comprise 391 villages, about 40 percent of which are located in coastal areas. High levels of anthropogenic activity, including tourism, port operations, mining, and the conversion of mangroves for various uses such as industrial zones, plantations, warehouses, and settlements, have contributed to the degradation of mangrove forests in the province. Our analysis shows that approximately 7,474 hectares of new mangrove stands have emerged, but there has also been a degradation of about 10,265 hectares of mangrove stands in Bangka Belitung between 1990 and 2019.Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN) and Yayasan Tahija, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, have initiated a program focused on “Improving the Livelihood of Local Communities through the Protection and Restoration of Coastal Mangrove Ecosystems in Bangka Belitung Islands.” As part of the implementation of mangrove restoration activities, a consultant is required to be regularly at the activity location.
