BLB NRW Cologne / Rhenish Friedrich Wilhelm University of Bonn, Core Renovation of Main Building (KSHG) / Hazardous Substance Remediation Design Planning

The subject of the planning is the main building of the Rhenish Friedrich Wilhelm University of Bonn. The building complex, centrally located in Bonn, is currently used by the university administration and three faculties of humanities - the Protestant Theological, Catholic Theological, and Philosophical Faculties with their associated institutes - and mainly houses offices/staff rooms, lecture halls, seminar and meeting rooms, libraries, museum spaces, an auditorium, and the early classical palace church. The listed main building is in need of renovation and, among other things, no longer meets fire safety and user requirements, and there are significant deficiencies in accessibility. Therefore, the main building is to be core renovated and university operations completely restructured. The future space requirements of the various university uses will be relocated and reorganized within the main building and other buildings. To prepare for the renovation of the main building, a detailed structural analysis has largely already been carried out. This includes a building survey as well as investigations into hazardous substances, building structure, and building history, including a heritage conservation accompanying plan. The results are intended to achieve planning and cost certainty within the framework of a heritage-compliant renovation. Furthermore, the findings serve to coordinate with all stakeholders involved in the planning.
