Les missions et tâches à exécuter par l’adjudicataire chargé des prestations de service externe de prévention et de protection sont, de façon synthétique et non exhaustive, les suivantes :  la surveillance de la santé ;  la collaboration avec le SIPP et le soutien apporté à celui-ci ;  la prise en charge des tâches et missions concernant les aspects psychosociaux et celles concernant plus spécifiquement la problématique des tâches et missions relatives à la violence et au harcèlement moral ou sexuel sur les lieux de travail ;  le soutien par le SEPP en matière de formations de la ligne hiérarchique et des travailleurs en matière de prévention et de protection au travail.  En action conjointe avec le SIPP, la mise à la disposition des travailleurs des différents services et institutions, de documentations spécifiques à leurs tâches concernant la prévention et la protection au travail.
