Description

This request consists of the construction of a new walking trail at Red Gorge, in Karijini National Park. The work is funded through the WA Government Outdoor Adventure Tourism program. A detailed design and specifications have been prepared and are provided as part of this request. The trail consists of a stacked loop design of approximately 4km, with the first loop constructed as class 2 while the additional loop to be class 3. The trail will lead to 4 minor lookouts (to be constructed by others). The scope of works includes clearing of vegetation, soil compaction, construction of rock steps, rock armouring and drainage management and installation of signage. This project will provide an alternative and new recreational offering to park visitors, in particular to physically limited park users and during wet weather when the gorges are closed. It will also provide spectacular views over the deepest gorge in Karijini. The final contract award remains subject to budget approval. It is anticipated the successful contractor will be onsite to commence construction works in April 2027 to coincide with seasonal conditions more conducive to construction activities in the Pilbara.
