  1. BACKGROUND

Botswana plans to harness its renewable energy (RE) resources and accelerate renewable energy development through the implementation of its Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). The Government of Botswana is currently developing renewable energy projects at several pre-selected sites. The Projects and Energy Development Unit (PEDU), under the Ministry of Minerals and Energy (the Client), is responsible for the development of these projects. A feasibility consultant has identified a proposed site for a wind farm based on a multi-criteria assessment considering preliminary wind resource data, transmission infrastructure, land use and ownership, and preliminary environmental and social considerations.

The site studies will support the development of a proposed 100MW wind farm located north of Letlhakane. The final coordinates and boundaries of the area to be surveyed will be confirmed by the Client prior to commencement of the assignment.

  1. SCOPE OF WORK

The assignment will comprise three principal components:

  • a topographic survey of the proposed wind farm site and associated areas;
  • a hydrological study, including assessment of drainage and flood risks relevant to the proposed development; and
  • a route survey to assess feasible transport routes for the delivery of wind turbine components and other oversized equipment to the project site.

The detailed scope, survey areas, technical requirements and deliverables will be set out in the Terms of Reference provided at the next stage of the selection process.

The consultant shall also provide a capacity-building seminar on how to understand and use the study reports when their first versions are issued.

  1. QUALIFICATIONS

Interested consultants should provide information demonstrating that they have the required qualifications and relevant experience to perform the services. The shortlisting criteria are:
