Description
Objective: To develop a space-qualified pyrotechnic initiator based on a COTS and to demonstrate its integrationwithin the associated subsystems required for the qualification of the squib and detonator configurations.Description:This activity addresses the development of space-compatible pyrotechnic devices, through the adaptationof a Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) initiator. Its objective is to transform an existing COTS initiatorinto a connectorized initiator suitable for space applications, including both launchers and spacecraft. Thework focuses on design adaptation, system integration, and functional demonstration under spacerelevantenvironmental and interface constraints, with the goal of reducing technical risk and increasingthe technology's maturity toward future space qualification and flight adoption.Given the criticality of this activity qualification, requirements for satellites and launchers will be furtherconsolidated with satellites and Launcher primesThe following tasks shall be executed:- Assess the requirements for Launchers and Spacecraft- COTS Initiator Assessment and Selection- Design Adaptation a Space Initiator- Develop the Squib Assembly (Initiator + Booster) - [Squibs are used on launchers and satellitesbecause of pyro-valve applications.]- Develop thedetonator Assembly (Initiator + Detonator cap)- Perform environmental and interface verification testing- Perform functional demonstration and Validation.Deliverables: Breadboard, reports
