Description

Dublin City Council aims to enhance the quality of life for its residents by developing an integrated Active Travel Network. This comprehensive network is designed to foster connections among individuals via pedestrian pathways, segregated cycle provision and other environmentally friendly transportation alternatives. The enhancement of accessibility and interconnectivity for people walking, wheeling and cycling within this network is anticipated to play a pivotal role in mitigating carbon emissions originating from transport activities. The Council’s objective is to augment the existing 40km network into a seamlessly connected 314km network spanning the entire city. The Gracefield Road to Vernon Avenue Active Travel Scheme is one of the projects identified under this initiative. Gracefield Road, Brookwood Avenue, Sybil Hill Road and Vernon Avenue have been identified as suitable roads for active travel measures. This scheme will deliver protected cycling facilities in both directions and numerous improvements for pedestrians over a 2.6km route along these roads, between the junctions with Malahide Road and Seafield Road. The scheme includes the provision of segregated cycle facilities, improved pedestrian facilities (footpath and junction upgrades), ducting, resurfacing, etc.. The scheme also includes the upgrade of seven signal-controlled junctions to improve pedestrian and cyclist facilities. The scheme comprises the following: - Reconfiguration of existing carriageway for inclusion of protected cycle lanes - Site clearance - Pavement works - Kerbs and footways - Traffic islands - Public lighting - Traffic signs and road markings - Drainage works - Traffic signals and ducting - Utilities - Landscaping and urban realm works - Bike stands - Temporary traffic management.
