About This Opportunity

This is a services contract in the information and communication technology sector. Located in Norway, Europe, this opportunity is open to firms and consortiums.

Published through ESA - European Space Agency, a multilateral development bank that follows standardized international procurement guidelines. Projects funded by multilateral institutions are generally open to international bidders from eligible member countries for services in the information and communication technology sector. Service contracts are typically evaluated on both technical quality and price, and may require bidders to demonstrate relevant experience and qualified personnel. This is an advance notice — the formal tender is expected to be published shortly. Interested parties can use this time to prepare documentation and identify potential partners.

Description

Objective: To develop a technology independent soft IP (Intellectual Property) core that complies with the aerospace profile of TSN(Time Sensitive Networking).Description:TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking) and TTE (Time Triggered Ethernet) are the two technologies that allow to deliver determinism and quality of service on top of standard Ethernet networks. Since TTE can be considered relatively closed technology (i.e. proprietary solution, patents pending on the technology), since a few years TSN is emerging as a potential successor of that technology. TSN is IEEE supported set of standards that implements wide range of quality of services (i.e. reliability, determinism, mixed criticality traffic, redundancy, time synchronization) on top of the standard Ethernet protocols. TSN benefits from Ethernet Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) tools/ecosystem, it is free of patents and is being introduced step-by step in industrial applications (automotive/industrial) and aerospace domain (IEEE P802.1DP - TSN for Aerospace Onboard Ethernet Communications). Although TSN is very successful in the automotive/industrial sector, in space applications TSNis still being considered as low TRL technology. Many current and future Exploration and Space Transportationmissions are considering Ethernet-based networks for the data-handling communication bus. Having thistechnology available for future ESA missions is seen as a key driver for future missions. The aim of this activity Is to develop an IP core that contains the core functionalities of Time-Sensitive Networking needed for space applications. Although the set of TSN standards is very wide, there are several on-going activities aiming attailoring of TSN for space applications. Having an TSN IP tailored to space applications could be considered asa key enabler of this technology in future ESA and national missions. The following technical aspects shall be considered:- Development of End-system IP Core. Switch IP core is out of scope of this activity- One or two Ethernet ports shall be supported.- Host integration: AXI4 lite for registers and IP configuration, and AXI4 stream for packet data- The IP shall support 10/100/1000Mbps speeds. 10Gbps is considered optional.- Compatible and configurable with various PHY interfaces (i.e. MII/GMII/RGMIII).- To be developed as technology independent VHDL.- To be implemented and validated in 2 FPGA/ASIC technologies (preferable NG-Ultra/Ultra300 andMicrochip Polarfire). This activity encompasses the following tasks:- TSN IP core requirements identification and development of the high-level architecture of the TSN soft IP core.- Prototype development and integration into a representative Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based network platform.- Verification and validation targeting high speed use cases- TSN soft IP core release and related documentation.Deliverables: Prototype, Report, SoftwareApplication/Need Date: Exploration and Space Transportation missions. Mission Classification: alpha, beta, gamma, delta
