2. Project Description
The Great Blue Wall (GBW) is a regional movement advancing ocean regeneration, climate resilience, community-led conservation and sustainable blue economies, originating in the Western Indian Ocean.
As one of the flagship initiatives under the IUCN Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) Coastal and Ocean Resilience Programme, the Great Blue Wall supports large-scale conservation, restoration and sustainable blue economy initiatives that strengthen biodiversity, improve livelihoods and enhance resilience of coastal communities.
IslandPlas is an IUCN project, led by ESARO, that works with seven African island states – Cabo Verde, Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, São Tomé and Príncipe, Seychelles and Zanzibar (Tanzania) – to reduce plastic packaging waste, strengthen livelihoods in the informal waste sector and promote community-centred solutions. IslandPlas country stories, including those from the Atlantic island states of Cabo Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, form part of the Great Blue Wall Documentary Portfolio.
To document and communicate the impact, innovation and lessons emerging from these initiatives, IUCN, through its Regional Office for Central and West Africa (PACO) and with the support of IUCN ESARO, seeks to engage a qualified Documentary Production Company to provide professional field production (filming) services within São Tomé and Príncipe.
The assignment will contribute to the broader Great Blue Wall Documentary Portfolio through the capture of high-quality documentary footage, interviews, aerial cinematography, photography and sound from São Tomé and Príncipe.
IUCN will provide the approved documentary concepts, scripts, storyboards, shot lists, interview guides, editorial direction and production briefs. The Production Company will be responsible for field production and for delivering all footage, transcripts and translations, organised and edit-ready, to the regional editor contracted by IUCN ESARO.
