Terms of Reference for IUCN Consultancy Impact story writer - Documenta(cid:415)on of TWENDE case studies & success stories Objective of the Consultancy We’re seeking an impact story writer to capture and produce high-quality documenta(cid:415)on of case studies and success stories focusing on ‘before & a(cid:332)er’ perspec(cid:415)ves that showcase the transforma(cid:415)ve impact of the TWENDE project by:  Showcasing impact and stories of change Capture and narrate compelling individual and collective transformations brought about by the TWENDE project, illustrating tangible improvements in livelihoods, drought resilience, sustainable water access, and natural resource management among target communities.  Reflecting on challenges and lessons learned Provide in-depth account of the adaptive strategies used to overcome them, and the key insights gained. This enhances a culture of continuous learning and strengthens future drought-resilience programming.  Advocating for sustained engagement Transform documented stories into powerful advocacy tools that mobilize support from stakeholders, attract new partners, and sustain momentum for climate resilience initiatives and ensuring continuity of TWENDE’s mission to end drought emergencies through sustainable development. Combining the latest science with the tradi(cid:415)onal knowledge of local communi(cid:415)es, these projects work to reverse habitat loss, restore ecosystems and improve people’s well-being. www.iucn.org About the Project TWENDE (Towards Ending Drought Emergencies) funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) has been under implementa(cid:415)on for the past 5 years. The objec(cid:415)ve of the project is to reduce the cost of climate change-induced drought on Kenya’s na(cid:415)onal economy by increasing the resilience of livestock and other land use sectors in restored and effec(cid:415)vely governed rangeland ecosystems. The project seeks to strengthen climate change adapta(cid:415)on in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs). The project targets 11 coun(cid:415)es in two major climate zones and borders 3 cri(cid:415)cal landscapes and ecosystems. The project aims to benefit 620,000 people in 104,000 households and will protect or restore 500,000 hectares of rangelands in a landscape of 2.5 million hectares. The target landscapes face challenges of weak capaci(cid:415)es for landscape planning, poor access to climate data and analysis, and low access to markets and financial services. The project addresses these challenges through three components, each implemented by a different execu(cid:415)ng en(cid:415)ty under the leadership and guidance of the accredited en(cid:415)ty, IUCN. Description of the Assignment Scope of Work The Consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:  Reviewing project documentation - Analyze existing TWENDE project reports, case studies, and other relevant materials to understand the project’s context, key interventions, and documented achievements in drought resilience and sustainable development. 2  Developing an impact story plan - Create a detailed story-gathering plan that outlines the approach to capturing success stories. The plan will identify central themes (e.g., water access, livelihood diversification, rangeland management), potential interviewees, story angles.  Conducting field visits -Engage directly with community members, local stakeholders, and TWENDE project staff through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Gather firsthand narratives of change, personal testimonies, and honest reflections on both triumphs and challenges.  Impact stories compendium - 6 well-documented success stories in compendium format combining rich visual narratives, stakeholder quotes, and reflections from TWENDE team members, presenting a coherent, human-centred account of individual and collective transformation under the project.
