Renewal of Kantstraße in Peine

The renewal of Kantstraße is part of the urban redevelopment area "Hagenviertel" in Peine. The redevelopment area includes the Hagenmarkt with the streets leading to and adjoining it. The fundamental renewal of Kantstraße in Peine is the top priority in the implementation concept and is expected to begin in 2029 in the section between the streets "Am Silberkamp" and "Werderstraße". The aim of the renewal of Kantstraße is a holistic street design with a new division of public road space. Measures to promote cycling, increase traffic safety, especially for "vulnerable road users", and consider the needs of people with reduced mobility will be given particular priority. Furthermore, the aim is to increase the quality of stay and improve the microclimate through appropriate greening of the street space. The project is to be managed jointly in terms of planning and construction, in close coordination between the City of Peine (road construction including street lighting), the Peine Drainage Authority (sewer construction) and Stadtwerke Peine GmbH (district heating, gas, water, and electricity). The project management will be handled by the Peine Drainage Authority. The awarding will be in the form of individual contracts by the aforementioned clients. The reason for the redesign and fundamental expansion of Kantstraße is the necessary work on the district heating pipeline network. The district heating pipeline network needs renewal along the entire route of Kantstraße, including the intersections. In addition, there is a need for renewal in the wastewater and rainwater sewer system. A rainwater sewer (rectangular cross-section 1200 x 1200, from 1900) runs centrally in the roadway of Kantstraße. The main rainwater sewer running centrally in Kantstraße, made of concrete, is expected to be completely renewed. The wastewater sewers with the corresponding property connections run on both sides. These show damage such as cracks, but could be repaired using liners. The pipeline work on the district heating network can only be carried out outside the heating period, i.e., from April to October. In addition, the Peine Freischießen festival with the necessary pre- and post-event periods is a temporal restriction. It is to be assumed that construction activity can only take place to a limited extent or not at all during the period from mid-June to mid-July. This must be taken into account accordingly in the construction schedule. Traffic management must be coordinated with the Lower Traffic Authority and all stakeholders at an early stage. Construction delays due to archaeological finds are to be expected. Planned implementation: Work is to begin immediately after commissioning and the measure is to be implemented as soon as possible. The contractor shall, in coordination with the clients, prepare a framework schedule for the planning, tendering, and execution of the construction project immediately after the contract is concluded.
