Description

The World Bank’s DEC Development Impact (DECDI) research team (hereinafter “WB Team”) seeks a qualified survey firm (hereinafter “Firm”) to conduct data collection for an 11-year follow-up of a randomized impact evaluation of MTV Shuga in Nigeria. MTV Shuga is a behavior change TV drama that promotes HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health, and positive attitudes toward women. The original study screened the drama in 80 locations across Oyo, Osun and Ondo states and surveyed 7,681 young people: 5,166 main study participants and 2,515 of their friends. These respondents are now in their early thirties. The Firm will be responsible for two main data collection activities: Data Collection Activity 1 – Recontact and database update. The Firm will attempt to recontact all 7,681 respondents and update their phone numbers and addresses. Recontact will be attempted first by phone, using respondent, family and friend contacts provided by the WB Team, then online (mainly WhatsApp), and then in person with the help of community leaders and families. Many respondents have moved since the original study, so the Firm must be able to trace them in any of Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT. Data Collection Activity 2 – 11-year follow-up survey. The Firm will administer a full in-person survey of about 1.5 hours to every recontacted respondent, wherever they now live in Nigeria. The survey covers demographics, HIV/AIDS knowledge and attitudes, birth control and sexual activity, sexually transmitted diseases, attitudes toward violence against women, and domestic violence (women only). Where an in-person interview is not feasible, a reduced phone survey of about 30 minutes will be used as a backup. The Firm will program all instruments in SurveyCTO. The WB Team is looking for firms with: - proven experience running large surveys in Nigeria, ideally including panel surveys that tracked respondents over time - experience with sensitive topics such as sexual and reproductive health, HIV or gender-based violence - the capacity to field teams across all states, with a strong presence in the South-West and Lagos - Yoruba-speaking enumerators, with balanced numbers of women and men - experience with SurveyCTO for in-person (CAPI) and phone (CATI) interviews, data quality checks, and delivering data in Stata Contract start date: November 2026, or immediately after contract signing. End date: February 2027.
