Description

PROJECT BACKGROUND: Redwater Provincial Recreation Area (PRA) experienced a major human caused wildfire in May of 2025, burning more than 3,200 hectares, largely within the park boundary. This resulted in the ongoing closure to the public while recovery and assessment activities continue. The fire highlighted the need for improved management tools to support seasonal closures, particularly during periods of elevated wildfire risk when off highway vehicle (OHV) bans may be required.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE: This project aims to establish access control at the PRA through the construction of fencing along key boundary areas and the installation of gates at designated trail access points. The work will also reduce ongoing maintenance requirements by replacing wildfire-damaged infrastructure.
