Description
The ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Radiation protection laboratory of the Directorate-General for Energy, Radiation protection and nuclear safety unit (DG ENER D3) provides day-to-day service to Commission staff working in the Euroforum building, in particular Euratom safeguards inspectors, by performing contamination measurements in order to confirm the absence of radioactive contamination on equipment and seals returned from nuclear facilities. In the event of contamination detected, the gamma spectrometry method is used for precise identification of gamma emitting radionuclide(s) responsible for the radioactive contamination, allowing the dosimetry service accurately to evaluate the potential exposure risks to the nuclear safeguards inspectors and ensure compliance with the basic safety standards.
This procurement is intended to replace the existing measurement equipment: a gamma spectrometry measurement system. In this context, DG ENER D3 Radiation protection laboratory needs to purchase one complete gamma spectrometry system with factory characterised, electrically cooled HPGe detector allowing accurate identification and quantification of gamma-ray emitting radionuclides on a filter sample.
