Municipality of Sonnefeld | Urban development Domänenwiese Non-open urban and open space planning realization competition with idea section

The municipality of Sonnefeld is a lively and attractive municipality in the district of Coburg. Conveniently located near the A 73 and B303 and close to the towns of Lichtenfels and Coburg, it is an attractive place to live, which also records a constant demand for housing due to the numerous businesses located here. In the preparatory studies for the town center, the potential of the area known as Domänenwiese was already identified in 2019 and recommended for urban development. Now that the municipality has acquired the abandoned industrial wasteland, which lies between residential development and the popular event location "Domäne", the opportunity has arisen to implement the urban development goals. The demand for housing is to be met in this attractive, centrally located area on the scenically attractive natural landscape of the Biberbach with a new quarter. It is explicitly not intended to create a "classic" new development area with single-family houses, but rather a dense and mixed quarter development is to be aimed for, which can be implemented in phases and by several actors. It is planned to give both local investors and building groups or building communities the opportunity to realize diverse offers on the basis of a coherent master plan in various construction phases and building fields. An important component of the overall concept is an open space system that is appropriate for the landscape, taking into account the edge of the town, pedestrian connections, and retention functions. The area of the realization area comprises approx. 4 hectares; the idea section comprises approx. 1 hectare.
