Description
Currently most of the high-power FSS are machined starting from a thick aluminium plate. Simple holes are then obtained by traditional milling and/or wire erosion techniques. In such way, the filtering features resides mainly on the holes bi-dimensional geometry.The enhancement of manufacturing techniques, such as metal deposition, 3D printing or, brazing of metal plates will enable the manufacturing of complex three-dimensional holes geometries with integrated filtering capabilities also in the thickness of the plate. Such new geometries will potentially allow drastic simplification of the antenna optical layout with associated improvement inthe system performance and reduction of the overall costs.
