Description

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) have recently undertaken significant network expansion works as part of major Metronet projects, including the Thornlie-Cockburn Link, Level Crossing Removal Program, and the Byford Rail Extension. These projects have delivered substantial increases in rail and service capacity within their respective construction areas. This requires additional fibre capacity to support certain critical services returning to Perth City and the Public Transport Operations Control Centre (PTOCC). As a result, several essential operational and future planned services are currently constrained by a shortage of available fibre cores. This includes requirements emerging from the Radio Systems Replacement Project, as well as the need to ensure adequate backup fibre capacity for Main Roads Western Australia. The purpose of the works under this Request is therefore to increase fibre service capacity across two key network areas that have experienced significant growth and heightened service demand. The successful delivery of these works will: Address the current shortfall in available fibre cores; Ensure sufficient network capacity for all planned and upcoming projects; and Provide resilient and reliable connectivity for critical transport and road network operations. These upgrades are essential to support current operational needs, future system deployments, and the broader transport infrastructure strategy for the Perth metropolitan region.
