Območje opuščenega odlagališča gudrona na Studencih v Mestni občini Maribor je zgolj eno izmed okoljskih bremen iz preteklosti, tovrstna odlagališča so prisotna na celotnem območju Slovenije. Odlaganje gudrona na Studencih sega v čas delovanja nekdanje Rafinerije mineralnih olj Maribor. Po razpoložljivih podatkih se gudron na Studencih nahaja na dveh parcelah št. 489 in 488, k.o. Studenci. Ocenjuje se, da je na lokaciji odloženih približno 12.700 m³ kisle gošče (gudrona), belilne zemlje in zemljin ter dodatnih 10.000 m³ kontaminiranih zemljin, kot so gramoz in drugi materiali. Lokacija odlagališča je še posebej občutljiva saj se nahaja znotraj širšega vodovarstvenega območja (VVO III) po Uredbi o vodovarstvenem območju za vodno telo vodonosnikov Ruš, Vrbanskega platoja, Limbuške dobrave in Dravskega polja (Uradni list RS, št. 24/07, 32/11, 22/13, 79/15 in 182/20).
