In 2020, Klinikum Esslingen, in close coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration of Baden-Württemberg, developed a Master Plan for Construction for the clinic. This Master Plan for Construction envisages a total of three construction phases with the creation of three new buildings. The future buildings consistently group similar functions into units, such as outpatient clinics and functional areas, and provide for a separation of inpatient and outpatient services. The clear new structure is intended to simplify organization for the clinic, and patients are to benefit from patient-oriented processes with significantly shorter distances. At Klinikum Esslingen, the demolition of the old Bed Building 2 has begun, marking the start of the first phase of a comprehensive modernization project. The construction of the first construction phase is scheduled to begin next year. The seven-story building will house eight state-of-the-art operating rooms, a central emergency room, an intensive care unit, and new nursing and specialized areas. Clinic operations will continue without interruption during the construction work. A modular building with 150 beds has been erected as a temporary solution. In parallel, a new technical control center and a ring conduit for the central control of energy and supply are being built. The new building will be constructed on a foundation pit up to 16 meters deep and will offer approximately 16,000 square meters of usable space in the future. The new buildings within the first construction phase are included in the State Hospital Construction Program. Funding commitments for this construction phase have been received from the funding body. Building permits from the City of Esslingen are available for the new construction of Buildings 2 and 12. Two further construction phases are already planned but not yet approved. With a total of three project phases over 15 years, this is the largest single construction measure in the history of the City of Esslingen. The clinic - a wholly-owned subsidiary of the city - employs around 2,000 staff and treats over 140,000 patients annually. The project decisions made during the design planning form the basis for the further service phases. The results of the preliminary and design planning are to be adopted by the specialist planner. The planning premises of LPH 2 and 3 remain valid and will be updated in the course of preparation and with LPH 5 onwards. The following project structure is to be used as a basis: The planning of the new construction of Buildings 2, 7, and 8 is thus divided into the planning for the 1st construction phase (Building 2) including interim solutions within the new construction, and the planning for the 2nd construction phase (Buildings 7 and 8) including final solutions for interim areas of the 1st construction phase. The new Buildings 2, 7, and 8 form a structurally and functionally connected building complex. This is connected to the surrounding above-ground and underground existing structures via various connections. The construction project to be processed is divided into the sub-projects Building 2 in the 1st construction phase and new construction of Buildings 7 and 8 in the 2nd construction phase, each including the demolition of existing buildings (exception BA2), excavation pit, and shoring. The new buildings are to be realized on the site while the hospital is in operation. Necessary interim measures within the construction phases are to be implemented in the planning.
