Klinikum Saarbrücken - Winterberg Health Campus

Klinikum Saarbrücken gGmbH, with 603 planned beds in the current state bed plan, is the second-largest hospital location in Saarland. As the sole operator of the state capital Saarbrücken, the hospital, as a large municipal hospital, is one of the essential pillars for ensuring healthcare in the state. This has been impressively demonstrated multiple times in view of past crises (e.g., Corona focus center Level I, cross-border emergency care, admission of Ukrainian war casualties, etc.). In view of the upcoming challenges in the context of geopolitical crises, the state government plans to assign Klinikum Saarbrücken a central role in civil-military cooperation, among other things as a supra-regional trauma center. More than 54,000 emergency patients of all ages and severity levels treated in 2025 – with a further upward trend, the largest number of emergency medical service referrals statewide, as well as the only remaining location for statutory health insurance on-call practices (adults and children) in the state capital, are not only symbolic of a concentration process in the healthcare landscape but also clearly underline the continuously growing importance and care role of the hospital. The interdisciplinary orientation in center structures, which has been consistently pursued for several years, contributes to this. These include: - Perinatal Center Level 1 - Neurovascular Center - Supra-regional Trauma Center (as well as admission for severe injury procedures by the BG) - Cardiac Arrest Center with attached Chest Pain Unit - Visceral Oncology Center (DKG) The hospital is also a university teaching hospital of the medical faculty of Saarland University. With the planned construction project, the hospital site is to be further strengthened and the existing hospital building expanded during ongoing operations.
