Structural engineering services for the extension building at Havelschule in Brandenburg an der Havel

The city of Brandenburg an der Havel, represented by the municipal company Zentrales Gebäude- und Liegenschaftsmanagement (GLM), is planning an extension to the Havelschule for after-school care and school use in Brandenburg an der Havel. The Havelschule was built in 1937/38 as a local school for the factory housing estate on the western outskirts of Brandenburg an der Havel. The estate was developed from the beginning of the 1930s, belonging to the local steelworks on Magdeburger Landstraße. The school was built as a brick building by city building director Karl Erbs, who was also responsible for the planning of larger parts of the estate. The estate is mostly located south of Magdeburger Landstraße, with the steelworks opposite in the northern area. The building complex was converted and expanded in 2008/2009 into a school site for students with physical and mental disabilities. From an urban planning and architectural perspective, the listed school ensemble forms a unit with its surroundings. An extension is to be built on the south gable of the elongated main building. The new three-story extension for the after-school care center will be located at the corner of Frankenstraße/Hessenweg with a direct connection to the Havelschule. The new building will partially share access with the Havelschule: a necessary staircase is available in the existing building. A connecting element will be provided between the Havelschule and the new extension as an access corridor. This will house a new staircase and an elevator for barrier-free access. The school will be accessed via the main entrance on the forecourt at Magdeburger Landstraße. The main entrance for the extension is the existing secondary entrance of the existing building on Frankenstraße. The forecourt is regularly used for bringing and picking up children by minibuses; there are also some parking spaces and bicycle racks for teachers and staff. Play and recreation areas for the children of the school and after-school care are available in the schoolyard area. The municipal company intends to award the structural engineering services within an open procedure: The following basic services according to HOAI for the following service areas, i.e., service phases 5 and 6, are to be provided: 1. Structural engineering and other special and/or additional services: - Planning, dimensioning of the underpinning of the existing foundations, including proof of ground failure (reference to structural analysis report page 5; (10)). Furthermore, the following services will be put out to tender in separate procurement procedures: 2. Building and interior design object planning of service phases 5 to 8, optionally service phase 9 3. Technical equipment specialist planning (heating, ventilation, and sanitation) of service phases 5 to 8, optionally service phase 9, 4. Technical equipment specialist planning (electrical) of service phases 5 to 8, optionally service phase 9.
