1. This Invitation for Prequalification of Contractors follows the General Procurement Notice for this Project that appeared in Development Business, Issue No. 715 of 30th November 2007.
2. The Government of Kenya has received a credit from the International Development Association (IDA) toward the cost of Kenya: Water and Sanitation Service Improvement Project and it intends to apply part of the proceeds of this credit to payments under the Contract for Lot 6 # Mumias Water Supply Augmentation Works, Contract No. NC/PH III/LOT6/Mumias(A).
3. The Lake Victoria North Water Services Board, a parastatal under the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, now intends to prequalify Contractors for Lot 6 # Mumias Water Supply Augmentation Works, Contract No. NC/PH III/LOT6/Mumias(A).
The Works include but are not limited to the following:
· Intake on River Lusumu: Reinforced Concrete Weir with Intake Chamber, Coarse and Fine Screens and associated Works.
· Raw Water Gravity Main
- 600mm dia. Ferrous Pipe, length 1350m
· Treatment Works, capacity 15,000 m3/d (including Access Road, and Staff Houses (2 Nr. Type B (Senior Staff) and 4 Nr. Grade 9 (Junior Staff))
· Treated Water Gravity Main: 27.8km long Main comprising of:
- 600mm dia. Ferrous Pipe, length 13,030m
- 500mm dia. Ferrous Pipe, length 14,750m
· Water Mains: Varying in diameter from 80 mm to 400 mm in materials uPVC and lined ferrous pipes - approximate length 19,000 metres. Associated works include installation of valves, fire hydrants, flowmeters, construction of chambers, etc.
· Storage Reservoir: Reinforced Concrete Tank at Ekero, capacity 5,000 m3
· Rehabilitation Works: Minor Rehabilitation Works required at the Existing Water TreatmentWorks and Distribution Network to ensure optimum operations till the new Project comes on line.
It is expected that the invitations for bid will be made on May 2010.
4. Prequalification will be conducted through prequalification procedures specified in the World Bank's Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, May 2004 (revised May 2007), and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries, as defined in the guidelines.

and inspect the prequalification document at the address below from 0800 hours to 1700 hours local time from Monday to Friday except duringlunch hour (1300 to 1400 hours) and during weekends and public holidays.
6. A complete set of the prequalification document in English may be purchased by interested contractors on the submission of a written application to the above address and upon payment of a non refundable fee of Kshs. 5,000 or equivalent in a freely convertible currency. The method of payment will be cash or Bankers cheque from a reputable bank in Kenya. Prequalification documents will be collected from the above address upon production of a purchase receipt.
7. Applications for prequalification should be submitted in sealed envelopes, delivered to the address below by 22nd February 2010, and must be clearly marked "Application for Prequalification for Lot 6 # Mumias Water Supply Augmentation Works(A)".
