Předmětem soutěže je návrh novostavby polyfunkčního městského domu na náměstí Republiky v Tachově. Nový objekt nahradí stávající Dům potravin, jehož technický stav, dispoziční řešení a architektonická kvalita již nevyhovují současným požadavkům a bude demolován. Cílem soutěže je nalézt kvalitní, soudobý, realistický architektonický návrh, který bude mít společenský a kulturní přínos, dodá nové impulzy do centra města, posílí jeho atraktivitu, přispěje ke kultivaci prostoru a přirozeně naváže na charakter historického prostředí městské památkové zóny. Návrh by měl přirozeně doplnit městskou strukturu historického jádra a kultivovaně navázat na charakter místa. Dům by měl být sebevědomý a zároveň pokorný, vyjadřovat svým jazykem současnost, ale zároveň respekt k městské památkové zóně, do níž vstupuje, a vytvořit přirozenou součást kulturní paměťové vrstvy Tachova.
