Im Projektperimeter befinden sich diverse Kunstbauten, darunter Unter- und Überführungen, Durchlässe, Stützmauern, Lärmschutzwände und Tunnel. Aufgrund des fortgeschrittenen Alters der Fahrbahn ist deshalb für diesen Abschnitt ein Erhaltungsprojekt vorgesehen. Die Haupttreiber sind somit die Zustandsentwicklung der Fahrbahn, der Betriebs- und Sicherheitsausrüstung und der diversen Kunstbauten, insbesondere die Tunnel, sowie die nicht normkonforme Strassenabwasserbehandlung. Massnahmen zur Erhöhung der Sicherheit Tunnel Balmenrain) sowie komplette Erneuerung der Betriebs- und Sicherheitsausrüstung im Projektperimeter.
