New construction of a cycle path on the former railway line between Gunsleben and Oschersleben: Mapping, impact assessment, species protection report and FFH preliminary assessment

The municipality of Großer Bruch and the town of Oschersleben are planning the new construction of a cycle path along the former railway line between Gunsleben, Neuwegersleben, and Oschersleben. The aim is to better connect the surrounding regions for both tourist cycling and everyday traffic. At the same time, safe paths for walkers, children, and young people are to be created. As part of the approval planning, a preliminary assessment of FFH compatibility is required. A variant study for the route was dispensed with, as the existing route of the former railway line dictates the course of the future cycle path. The cycle path is to be constructed in concrete with a 2.5% cross slope and a width of 2.50 m over a total length of approx. 11.5 km. The railway line to be mapped and evaluated is partly in the area of the Großer Bruch near Wulferstedt (FFH0043). This FFH area is located west of Oschersleben, directly in the Westliche Börde. It extends on both sides of the Großer Bruch ditch. FFH preliminary assessment - Description of the project & influencing factors: Detailed description of the construction measures (e.g., soil sealing, clearing, soil removal) and the later use (noise, disturbance by cyclists, possible lighting). - Inventory & conservation objectives: Identification of the habitat types (LRTs) and species (according to Annex I and II of the FFH Directive) present in the area for which the area has been reported. - Prognosis of impacts: Analysis of whether the influencing factors lead to a permanent loss of habitats or significant disturbance of protected species (e.g., bats in tunnels/bridges or birds in railway embankment vegetation). - Examination of avoidance and minimization measures: Development of solutions to prevent damage, such as restrictions on construction times, avoidance of lighting, or special guidance systems for animals. - Cumulative assessment: Examination of whether the project, together with other plans or projects in the vicinity
