De gemeente Het Hogeland zet een volgende stap in de ontwikkeling van het Ontwikkelplein: een moderne en toekomstbestendige plek waar inwoners kunnen leren, werken, zich ontwikkelen en elkaar ontmoeten. Met dit project investeert de gemeente in kansen voor iedereen om mee te doen in de samenleving. Het huidige vastgoed van het Ontwikkelplein voldoet technisch en functioneel niet meer aan de eisen van deze tijd. De panden kampen met achterstallig onderhoud, slechte isolatie en niet-Arbo-conforme omstandigheden, waardoor renovatie niet haalbaar is. Dit belemmert de doorontwikkeling en vormt een risico voor continuïteit van dienstverlening. Daarom is gekozen voor (ver)nieuwbouw op een locatie binnen het plangebied aan de Nijverheidsweg en Industrieweg in Uithuizen.
