Picosecond Time-Tagger with 21 Channels

In the Quantum Information and Communication department, non-classical light is generated through nonlinear optical processes. In these experiments, complex and highly sensitive quantum optical states are created, manipulated, and measured at the single-photon level. A time-tagger is required to convert analog electrical signals, measured with single-photon-sensitive detectors, into digital signals that can be further processed with standard IT. This digital counting system converts the detection events with an incoming photon flux into digital timestamps, referred to as time tags (English). This time-to-digital converter is referred to here as a time-tagger (English). In total, the time-tagger has 21 input channels for the analog input signals. One channel serves as a start signal, generated by a laser photodiode. The other 20 channels are to be connected to the output signals of single-photon-sensitive detectors. Simultaneous arrival time correlation measurements with all channels must be possible. Furthermore, arrival time correlation measurements between any number of the existing channels must be possible.
