General Planner, SIA Phase 31 (Preliminary Project) Modernisation of Basel Wolf Production Facilities

The project “Modernisation of Production in Basel Wolf” is a sub-project of the capacity expansion program for the Basel Hub (VKKB). In order to ensure the long-term efficiency of production processes and goods handling, the existing facilities at the Wolf marshalling yard must be modernised and adapted to future operational needs. The track configuration of the Wolf marshalling yard is essential for freight and passenger traffic. Two through tracks (BSRB–F) within the perimeter ensure operational continuity. The northern tracks of marshalling yard group C/J are currently used primarily for the assembly and dismantling of freight trains, the wagons of which are loaded or unloaded at the intermodal terminal of group Z or in the outdoor loading area (C10–C13). This function will cease with the commissioning of the Basel North bypass. For passenger traffic, the access tracks to the Wolf maintenance workshop, the Chassis Competence Centre (FKC) and the continuous cleaning facility (DLR) are particularly important. The track area also includes operational facilities such as the wastewater treatment plant (ESA) and drinking water supply stations for trains. These elements form an essential framework for the planning of this project. As a central sub-project of the Basel Hub (VKKB), this project aims to improve production processes in the Basel Wolf area. Its main objectives are: • Reorganisation of existing track systems (groups C/J and E/F) • Optimisation of access tracks to the continuous cleaning system (DLR) • Improvement of route operating flexibility and track utilisation • Consideration of future operational needs of the track systems • Ensuring upward compatibility within the overall VKKB system • Optimisation of service routes (groups C/J and E/F) Detailed description in accordance with document B1.0 Project and Service Description.
