BackgroundThe Pacific Open Learning Health Net (POLHN) was established in 2003 to strengthen the capacity of health professionals in Pacific Island Countries (PICs) by providing accessible, high-quality online learning opportunities.
POLHN has supported thousands of health workers by addressing geographical isolation, limited resources, and workforce constraints unique to the Pacific region.Following a temporary closure in 2022, POLHN is being revitalized as a dedicated learning space within the WHO Academy platform (https://whoacademy.org/polhn), through collaboration between the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) and the WHO Academy.
This revitalization aims to integrate competency-based learning, advanced digital technologies, and innovative educational approaches to better support system strengthening across Member States. As part of this revitalization, WHO WPRO plans to expand POLHN’s course portfolio to address priority public health needs.
This year, WHO WPRO intends to develop and update self‑paced online courses focusing on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs).A total of three courses is planned to be developed/updated.These courses require updating to align with the latest WHO technical guidance, reflect country contexts, and improve overall learning experience. Please use the subject lineWHO Bid Reference WPRO/2026-5/DSI/301821in all email submissions.
