Description

At present, access to the full range of cooling and heating capabilities on the ISS relies oncold-stowage allocations provided through NASA. This dependency imposes significant constraintson ESA scientific missions, which are both highly demanding and competingfor limited resources. In preparation for the post-ISS era and future collaboration models with Commercial LEO Destination(CLD) providers, the executive has identified a strategic need to establish an autonomouscold-stowage portfolio. Such capability is essential to meet the research requirements of theEuropean scientific community and to support value-exchange mechanisms with future commercialpartners. PINGU will be a single Middeck-Locker-sized unit, offering a conditioned internal volume of up to 14 Lcapable of accommodating diverse sample geometries. The system will provide precise temperaturecontrol, with a programmable operating range from-90 C to +4 C, thereby covering the mostdemanding thermal requirements for ESA research.
