Open landscape planning competition for the creation of the forecourt in front of the new Volkstheater, including a large grandstand staircase to the square below, Am Bussebart

As part of the development of one of the last large undeveloped areas in the "Rostock City Center" redevelopment area, the Am Bussebart area and the adjacent public open spaces to the east have become a core element of the urban and landscape planning redevelopment of the Northern Old Town. The planning for the creation of the forecourt in front of the new Volkstheater, including a large grandstand staircase to the square below, Am Bussebart, is being tendered through this urban landscape architecture competition with a subsequent negotiation procedure. The planning area of the competition covers approximately 4,000 m² directly adjacent to the new Volkstheater in the Lange Straße area. The aim of the planning competition is to develop an open space for this urbanistically sensitive area, which does justice to the main entrance area of the new Volkstheater and creates a functional and design connection between the main thoroughfare in the city center, Lange Straße, and the western bypass on Kanonsberg (up to the Volkstheater access road). The grandstand staircase forms the entrance to the Bussebart. The theme of the grandstand staircase is of great importance in the competition. With the grandstand staircase, in addition to the architecturally sophisticated new theater building, another "eye-catcher" can be created, which must match the theater but also have its own special presence. The construction of the new Volkstheater completes the built street space of Lange Straße and sets a final piece in the western edge of the Old Town. The forecourt to be redesigned should integrate the Volkstheater into the listed ensemble and also create the special character of the place as a "balcony" above the Bussebart and the adjoining city harbor and the Warnow river.
