As part of the implementation of the activities of the Benin Classified Forests Project Phase 2 (PFC-B 2), the Coordination of the Integrated Project Management Unit (IPMU) is launching a call for applications for the recruitment of one (01) International Technical Assistant (ITA).
The IPMU cordially invites all qualified individuals meeting the required profiles below to submit their applications.
POSITION: ONE (01) “INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL ASSISTANT”
Under the supervision of the General Coordinator (GC), the “International Technical Assistant” is responsible for supporting the Coordinator in the execution of his duties within the project.
- MAIN ROLE OF THE ITA:
The main role of the International Technical Assistance is to provide technical and managerial advisory support for the execution of the PFC-B 2 activities. The International Technical Assistant will have expertise in the activities of sub-component 1.2: “Strategies and instruments for the sustainable management of classified forests”; 2.3: “Creation and management of production forests” and 2.4: “Sustainable management of conservation forests” of the project, specifically those related to the transformation, carbonization, and marketing of wood energy and charcoal through the mechanism of Rural Wood Markets (RWM). The ITA will also have solid experience in wood energy transformation and energy efficiency during carbonization, in assessing household consumption with the use of improved stoves, as well as monitoring the marketing of wood and charcoal flows, including projections of needs and wood energy supply capacities.
More specifically, it will involve:
- within the framework of Sub-component 2.3 “Creation and management of production forests”, supporting the realization of baseline flow studies in the PFC-B 2 intervention zone, supporting the implementation of Management Plans for Classified Forests in production series, and monitoring wood energy rural markets (in consistency with the implementation of improved carbonization sites) on the periphery of production forests for firewood;
- within the framework of Sub-component “2.4: Sustainable management of conservation forests” (i) supporting the identification and development of efficient, affordable, and scalable technologies for charcoal production; (ii) raising awareness and training local communities and charcoal producers on improved carbonization techniques and the use of more efficient kilns; (iii) constructing improved charcoal kilns on the periphery of natural forests to encourage charcoal producers to process wood outside natural forests, thus reducing the risks of bushfires and forest degradation related to charcoal production; (iv) organizing and facilitating training sessions for PFC-B 2 staff and forestry administration personnel on forest management and the conduct of carbonization sites.
Specific support from the ITA:
The ITA must ensure, contribute to the design and quality control of all documents produced by the IPMU (technical guides, consultant reports, monitoring reports, progress reports), and any other reports related to the execution of PFC2 and activities related to wood energy and the “SCALE” component.
The ITA’s quality control activities will be carried out both upstream, with IPMU staff during the preparation and implementation of activities planned in the Annual Work Plans and Budgets (AWPB) and Project Implementation Manuals (PIM), to avoid any delays in disbursement and implementation of project activities, and downstream just before the transmission of documents by the IPMU Coordinator.
