Das System soll für die Untersuchung fester und flüssiger Proben, Dünnschichten sowie Gele geeignet sein und zur Charakterisierung von insbesondere Polymeren, Kunststoffen, Biomaterialien, pharmazeutischen Formulierungen und Nanomaterialien eingesetzt werden. Ein besonderer Anwendungsschwerpunkt liegt auf der SAXS‑basierten Untersuchung der Morphologie und Porenstruktur von Fasern, insbesondere von Carbonfasern und deren Präkursoren.
