Urban redevelopment Aue and B7 intersection reconstruction Planning services for traffic and open spaces

The City of Wuppertal intends to redevelop the Aue area and reconstruct the intersection of Alsenstraße/B7/Sophienstraße in the west of the Elberfeld city center. The overarching planning goal is to develop a road cross-section that can contribute maximally to achieving climate protection goals through de-sealing of surfaces and climate-resilient upgrading (green-blue infrastructure) while simultaneously providing the essential traffic functions for "walking and driving". In the opinion of the Lower Monument Protection Authority, there are only minor findings expected in the project area, but fragments of underground Wilhelminian-era buildings could cause legacy contamination issues. Special challenges arise from - complex logistical requirements in the inner-city environment (limited construction site setup areas, parallel measures, coordination with residents, requirements of emergency services, etc.) and - compliance with the funding requirements (FRL 2023) of the urban development funding program "Growth and Sustainable Renewal – Innenstadt Wuppertal Elberfeld". The measure must explicitly serve climate protection and adaptation to climate change and must also be completed by December 31, 2028, to ensure eligibility for funding.
