Description

Part of the CRU ESD’s role in the regulation of gas and electrical works is to undertake investigations where suspected illegal works are reported, i.e. where works are undertaken by unregistered persons. These investigations may ultimately result in the CRU ESD seeking to prosecute persons undertaking illegal works. This work is linked to strategic priority 5, “protect the public interest in safety”, and strategic objective 1, “drive compliance with safety regulation”. Securing prosecutions where illegal works have taken place is a preventative safety measure as it deters others from undertaking same. It is essential that the CRU undertakes investigations and build’s case files in accordance with good practice. To ensure the competency of the ESD, the ESD is seeking ongoing consultancy support to deliver investigation training and review and advise on investigation/case files as and when they may arise.
