Description

Objective: The objective of the activity is to design, develop, and test two IP cores that implement the transmitter and receiver digital functions of the coherent and non-coherent 10 Gbps air interface option from the ESA Specification for terabit/s optical Links (ESTOL). The IP cores shall cover in scope both the optical inter-satellite links and the optical space-ground links included in ESTOL.Targeted Improvements:Develop non-coherent IP core to reach 10 Gbps from the current offering at 2.5 Gbps. Also, develop a coherent IP core to improve the sensitivity of the non-coherent one.Description:The activity shall design, develop, test two IPcore that implement the transmitter and receiver of the 10 Gbps coherent and non-coherent air interface options from the ESTOL. TheIP cores shall implement the data link layer of the transmit/receive devices, including randomization, FEC encoding/decoding, framing/de-framing, modulating/demodulating, CRC, digital synchronization etc. The IP cores shall encompass both optical inter-satellite links and optical space-ground links (bidirectional). For the latter, a time diversity method, as specified in ESTOL, shall be included in the IP. TheIP cores shall be tested against software implementations of the ESTOL specifications and shall become part of the ESA IP core portfolio. It shall be implemented and tested in a commercial FPGA.
