n 2021 is het besluit genomen om de muizen van de Centrale Dienst Proefdieren (CDP) te huisvesten in Digital Ventilated Cages (DVC). De inzet van DVC biedt voordelen op meerdere vlakken: Voor CDP-medewerkers: een lagere blootstelling aan allergenen en een substantiële vermindering van het aantal repetitieve handelingen. Voor muizen: een meer verfijnde en diervriendelijke vorm van huisvesting. Voor onderzoekers: eenvoudige toegang tot relevante gegevens, waaronder activiteitsdata van muizen in dierproeven en fok. Voor het milieu: een directe besparing op water-, stoom- en elektriciteitsverbruik, evenals op het gebruik van beddingmateriaal. Met de implementatie van Level 2 wordt alle relevante informatie samengebracht in één geïntegreerd systeem. Hierdoor verdwijnen dubbele administratieve handelingen en zijn gegevens over de muizen, hun activiteit, verschoonmomenten en welfare alerts centraal beschikbaar.
