Description

The University of Calgary, requires the development of a digital Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) that algorithmizes Alberta-specific evidence based antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) guidance into structured, point of care decision pathways for primary care prescribing practitioners (e.g. family doctors, pharmacists, nurse practitioners) across Alberta. The CDSS development requires clinical expertise, proven experience working with Canadian AMS guidelines at the provincial and national levels, and the ability to translate complex AMS documentation into an intuitive, digital, accessible, algorithmic, optimized for real time use (point-of-care), with minimal cognitive burden, and to be ready for broad deployment across primary care environments throughout Alberta. A field proven solution is essential since the contract requires a mature, production ready CDSS that has been field-tested and validated through sustained real world use within an Alberta and Canadian healthcare environments. The AMS guidelines for algorithmization must include but are not limited to syndrome based antibiotic prescribing recommendations, allergy assessment, duration of antimicrobial therapy, and be aligned to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) AWaRe classification. The CDSS must also provide embedded local antimicrobial resistance data and antibiograms into decision trees, not as static reference materials. The system must also support ongoing guideline governance, updates, and stewardship program management during a 2-year term (contract’s duration). The system must also operate independently and without the collection or storage of patient health information. Full requirements are stated in the ACAN document.
