Investigation into the Distribution of Finte Eggs and Finte Larvae and the Development of the Finte Population in the Tidal Elbe 2025-2028

This tender concerns a comprehensive investigation into the distribution of Finte eggs and larvae, as well as the development of the Finte population within the Tidal Elbe region, spanning the period from 2025 to 2028. The Waterways and Shipping Administration (Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsverwaltung) is legally mandated to maintain the navigation channel of the Lower and Outer Elbe. To optimize sediment management in line with NATURA 2000 objectives, a precise understanding of the impacts of dredging and sediment relocation on the Finte species is essential.

Furthermore, the Elbe-North Sea Waterways and Shipping Office (Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsamt Elbe-Nordsee), as the project sponsor (Träger des Vorhabens - TdV), is obligated under the planning approval decision for the navigation channel adjustment of the Lower and Outer Elbe for 14.5m deep container ships (dated April 23, 2012, and subsequent amendments I-III) to conduct monitoring. This monitoring includes tracking the development of the Finte population and assessing the spatial and temporal distribution of spawning, eggs, and larvae. These investigations are mandated indefinitely.

The project requires detailed ecological studies and data collection to inform environmental protection measures and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to the maintenance and development of the Elbe waterway and its associated ecosystems. The successful bidder will be responsible for executing these critical monitoring and research activities.
