The Bezirkskliniken Mittelfranken is one of the largest clinic companies in the Mittelfranken region in the fields of psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychosomatics, and geriatric rehabilitation. The treatment offer of the Bezirksklinikum Ansbach includes the fields of psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics, child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric rehabilitation, and forensic psychiatry. To ensure a high-quality range of care, the Bezirkskliniken Mittelfranken intend to carry out general expansion planning at the Ansbach site. The total bed requirement for the Ansbach site was determined by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care on 09.11.2021 as 300 beds. The application for preliminary determination for the overall measure must be submitted in October 2026. The individual buildings at the Ansbach site are arranged decentrally on a park-like property (pavilion structure). The majority of the buildings are listed as historical monuments and mostly date from around 1902 to 1912. Extension and expansion buildings were constructed between 1962 and 2011. The goal of the general expansion planning will be to create a therapeutic and healing-supportive environment for patients and a more treatment-supportive and efficient environment for staff through new construction. As part of a urban planning study from 11.2024, a possible "Central Building Site" was identified as the preferred location for the upcoming general expansion planning. The site has an area of approx. 24,000 m2, and usable areas of approx. 18,800 m2 could be created here. Demolition measures are required to clear the building site. The coordinated medical concept by Prof. Dr. med. Mathias Zink, Chief Physician of the Clinic for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at the Bezirksklinikum Ansbach, provides for the following conceptual implementation: Creation of 12 disorder-specific wards, each with 25 beds. According to the concept, these wards are divided into - Five classic wards and - Seven track wards In the first construction phase, according to the considerations of the medical concept, six wards, three of which will be designed as track wards, are to be built. In the second construction phase, approximately 150 inpatient beds will then be created. The urban planning study from 11.2024 arrives - subject to a cost uncertainty of approx. +/- 20% due to the project status - at the following rough costs (as of Q4/2025): - 1st construction phase (incl. medical technology, initial furnishings): 185 million EUR gross. - Total measure: 265 million EUR gross. There is also a framework operating concept with capacity determination from December 2025. This concept describes the characteristics of the functional units and determines the capacity requirements as well as the operational conceptual principles for the future direction of the Bezirksklinikum Ansbach.
