Description
To develop technologies suitable for versatile and highly efficient high-power modules for Positioning-Navigation-Timing(PNT) applications, with a proof of concept demonstrator.DescriptionCurrent trends in space systems, including navigation, are pushing payloads to be more compact, less expensive and faster to develop. The same applies to the power amplification subsystem. A solid-state based design assures compactness, and in this sense, the technology is pushing toward the development of GaN-based amplifiers. However, different amplifier equipment still needs to be developed for each use case (e.g. frequency band, generative payloads in various orbits, transparent SBAS payloads). Modularity and versatility allows to communalise a design among multiple needs, especially in terms of frequency spectrum requirements, reducing development time and costs. On the other side, this poses some limitations and difficulties to design an amplifier able to operate efficiently along the whole range of needs. This activity aims at the study of versatile and highly efficient high power modules suitable for future PNT applications in L/S-band, with a proof of concept demonstrator. Different strategies are to be investigated and a comprehensive evaluation against a traditional broadband design approach is expected.
