Saskatchewan's Growth Plan includes a goal to grow Indigenous participation in Saskatchewan's natural resource industries. Indigenous communities, organizations and industry have identified access to capital as a significant barrier to achieving this goal. On April 4, 2022, the Government of Saskatchewan introduced new legislation to create the Saskatchewan Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation (SIIFC), which will support Indigenous participation in the province’s natural resource and value-added agriculture sectors. Please visit SIIFC website (https://siifc.ca/) and “GOS news and media release” for more information. The SIIFC will be an enabler of positive economic and social outcomes for Indigenous communities as investment returns fund various community priorities. The SIIFC announced its first loan guarantee in August of 2025 for up to $7 Million (M) in support of George Gordon Developments Ltd (GGDL) and its equity contribution to the 32MW Wicehtowak Solar Energy Project, which will supply power to industry partner, K + S Potash Canada.
