PART 1 – BACKGROUND
1.1 Project Overview
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region.
Made up of 53 Member States and 9 Associate Members, with a geographical scope that stretches from Turkey in the west to the Pacific island nation of Kiribati in the east, and from the Russian Federation in the north to New Zealand in the south, the region is home to 4.1 billion people.
This makes UNESCAP the most comprehensive of the United Nations five regional commissions, and the largest United Nations body serving the Asia-Pacific region with over 600 staff.
Established in 1947 with its headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, UNESCAP works to overcome some of the region’s greatest challenges by providing results-oriented projects, technical assistance and capacity building to Member States. The UNESCAP premises presently houses the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok (UNCC), a 3-floor structure with 2 basement floors, with a total of 18,600 square metres (m²) of meeting space including 5 conference rooms and 9 multi-function meeting rooms.
Over 3,500 meetings were held at the UNCC in 2018.
1.2 Purpose of the RFI
This Request for Information is issued for planning purposes to assist UNESCAP Facilities Management Section (FMS), in designing and constructing a new gallery at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC), ground floor on the occasion of ESCAP's 80th Anniversary.
1.3 Solution:
Respondents are requested to provide a presentation on their available gallery design and interior furnishing services and are expected to elaborate on the different aspects of the solutions.
The presentation should demonstrate how the presenter's past and present clients have been provided with similar services, and should address the following:
1.
Thematic & Institutional Alignment : Styles of museum display appropriate for the United Nations, demonstrating an understanding of the UN’s core values and diplomatic environment.
2.
Space Optimization: Strategies for maximizing visitor engagement and operational flow within a compact, ground-floor footprint (approximately 100 sq.m.), ensuring ADA compliance and seamless integration with existing building structures.
3.
Custom Fabrication & specialized Fixtures: Proven experience in designing, engineering, and installing bespoke gallery elements, specifically including curved architectural walls, infographic displays, and modular timeline panels.
4.
Fast-Track Turnkey Execution: The methodology for managing highly compressed project schedules (e.g., 90-day design-to-handover).
This must detail the respondent’s approach to balancing off-site fabrication with on-site assembly to minimize disruption.
5.
Logistics in High-Security Environments: Protocols for managing contractor access, material deliveries, and noise and dust control while working within a fully operational facility.
6.
MEP Integration & Lighting: Experience in installing specialized gallery track lighting and integrating new electrical / AV systems safely into an existing facility's base-building infrastructure and fire/life-safety systems.
7.
Sustainability and ESG Standards: The application of eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient lighting, and sustainable waste management practices during construction to align with the organization's environmental standards.
1.4 Presentation Specifics:
The presentation shall range from 30 to 45 minutes, including a 10 to 15 minute window for questions and answers. The presentation could be done in person or via VTC on a designated date in April/ May 2026.
It should be noted that this RFI is being sought strictly for the purpose of gaining knowledge on available design and internal furnishing services, and should not be construed as intent, commitment, or promise to acquire services, systems, or solutions offered.
Although selection of potential supplier or service provider may be affected by the responses of interested parties to this RFI, no contract will result from any response to this RFI.
Potential presenters are volunteering their time and resources to provide in PowerPoint or other visual format, the requested information.
UNESCAP will not be financially responsible for any expenses incurred in providing information solicited.
